“Let me be clear: The violence we saw yesterday on our nation’s Capitol was appalling, reprehensible, and contrary to the American way. We condemn it – the President and this administration – in the strongest terms possible. This is unacceptable, and those who break the law should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, ”McEnany said before leaving the press conference room without answering reporters’ questions.

A massive group of rioters gathered on Wednesday to try to stop Congress from counting President-elect Joe Biden’s voting lists in the electoral college. They violated the Capitol, forced both houses of Congress to withdraw and lawmakers to evacuate, and caused numerous injuries and extensive property damage.
Four people died in the midst of the heckling of the day. A woman was shot dead in an altercation with police, while three died from a medical emergency.
“What we saw yesterday was a group of violent rioters violating the First Amendment rights of those who came peacefully to make their voices heard in our country’s capital. Those who violently besieged our capital are the opposite of what this administration represents, ”said McEnany. .

She added, “Those who work in this building are working to ensure an orderly transition of power. Now is the time for America to unite, to come together, to reject the violence that we have seen. We are one people. American under God. ”
McEnany’s brief appearance – in which she read the statement “on behalf of the White House,” not the president – was the administration’s first public statement on the Capitol riot after Trump broadcast a video telling its followers, “We love you, you are very special.” The video was later deleted entirely from Twitter and Facebook.
Notably, McEnany said White House staff are continuing an orderly transition despite Trump, with less than two weeks in office, has yet to concede the election. In fact, he even insisted in Wednesday’s video that the 2020 election had been rigged and stolen – an allegation that prompted rioters to descend on Capitol Hill shortly after.
