Prepare to enter the matrix.

Lana Wachowski is about to write and direct a fourth film in the world of "The Matrix", with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss taking over their respective roles of Neo and Trinity.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and distribute the film around the world. The president of Warner Bros. Picture Group, Toby Emmerich, made the announcement on Tuesday.

"We could not be more excited about going into" The Matrix "with Lana," Emmerich said. "Lana is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we are delighted that she writes, directs and produces this new chapter of the universe" The Matrix "."

Besides Wachowski, the script was also written by Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski also produces with Grant Hill. Sources say the film should begin at the start of production in 2020.

The three previous films – "The Matrix", "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" – collectively grossed more than $ 1.6 billion at the global box office. All three were written and directed by Lana and her sister, Lilly, and performed by Reeves and Moss.

"Many of the ideas that Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I am very happy to have these characters in my life and I am grateful to have another chance to work with my brilliant friends, "said Wachowski.

The first "Matrix" celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, marked by special screenings in some AMC venues starting Aug. 30.
