Keith Urban wanted to ‘knock out’ the man who ‘hit’ Nicole Kidman at the opera

Keith Urban almost had fighting words for a man who sat behind the country singer and his wife, Nicole Kidman, in Every Place: The Opera. The altercation took place in January at the Sydney Opera House, and finally we get the Urban side in the story – and it’s just a misunderstanding on the label.

As it was the couple’s first time attending the opera, they were moved by the performance of The Merry Widow so much so that they stood up to give the cast a standing ovation – but that’s not what happens at the opera. Oops!

“It was a brilliant performance, so good, and I look around and we clap and we clap, everyone is clapping, then I look around and I see a few people standing, then a few more and I was like ‘Oh, fucking hell. I’m getting up, ”he reminded KIIS FM. Kyle and Jackie O Show Thursday. “So I got up and then this guy behind me just hit Nic, like I really hit her with the program.”

That astonishing blow to the butt was enough for Kidman to exclaim, “This guy just hit me!” What should a husband do? Urban joked that “violence at the opera ensued,” but he was stuck in a tough spot: is he defending his wife or admitting that they broke opera protocol? Well, Urban, being the ultimate gentleman, has taken the high road to the whole situation.

“It took a lot of restraint. I was quite upset, ”he admitted. “I just looked at him and said, ‘This is a standing ovation“. But, at the same time, I understand. I understand there’s this thing going on where there’s a traditional thing that says you don’t do that, and I respect that.

That’s why we love the old American Idol judge; he still found a subtle way to defend his Oscar winning wife while also trying to respect opera fans, who know that a standing ovation is not the best way to honor performers.

We’re glad there wasn’t a fight for sure that night, but the idea of Urban setting a stage on a luxury opera night would have been one for centuries. Either way, Kidman knows her husband is supportive of her in all situations – even at the opera.
