Kelly Dodd attributes social media mistakes to ‘canceling culture’

Kelly Dodd is no stranger to controversy, but hated being a “victim” of the so-called “cancellation culture.”

“Kelly, it was so disappointing to see you calling the protesters looters,” asked a fan question relayed by Andy Cohen at the “Real Housewives of Orange County” meeting on Wednesday night. “As a Mexican-American, don’t you think you have a responsibility to stand alongside your fellow marginalized communities?

“Look, I have nothing to protest … Peaceful protests – I’m all about that,” replied Dodd, 45. “But it was on a whole new level that I saw in New York. There was looting. There were buildings on fire and I don’t think that’s the way to protest.

Cohen, 52, started talking about Dodd’s next social media mistake of 2020: posting a photo at his bridal shower wearing a hat that read “Drunk Wives Matter.” When asked if she understood why people were upset about it, Dodd replied that the hat was two years old and it was a gift.

“There were a lot of drunken wives at the party,” Elizabeth Lyn Vargas offered, with Dodd explaining that it wasn’t meant to poke fun at the Black Lives Matter movement.

Dodd allowed her to see how the hat might have offended people after Braunwyn Windham-Burke pushed her, before going on the offensive.

“I was not malicious and I am attacked by this cancellation culture which is a group of haters who would never have any voice and here they come together and [coming] after me, ”she said.

“They are not just haters. These are people who have been oppressed, ”said Windham-Burke, 43.

“Four of my best friends are African American and they didn’t take offense,” Dodd shouted, adding, “White did it!”

Dodd also reaffirmed that she is black, but does not identify as a black person.

Earlier in the episode, Dodd’s 28-person marriage to Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal became a similar point of contention as he told Cohen she was having a marriage due to the pandemic.

“I’m glad I did because nobody got sick and it was wonderful,” she said.

Cohen then read a question from fans asking the women if they thought Dodd’s marriage was irresponsible.

“It wasn’t necessarily irresponsible if everyone was tested,” Vargas replied.

“But is it okay to protest?” Dodd intervened. “Can anyone demonstrate and be among a billion people?” But can’t I have a festive wedding? “

It’s unclear if the Windham-Burke and Dodd drama will play out on the next season of “RHOC,” as Dodd has stated that she will quit the show if the premiere brings her back.
