Kelly Stafford, the wife of Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, said Sunday on Instagram that she had come out of the hospital after undergoing a 12-hour surgery to remove a brain tumor earlier in the week.

She underwent surgery on Wednesday and wrote that her procedure had taken twice as long as expected because of an "abnormal vein" but that she was at home and "trying to". to learn my new standard ".

"This Easter celebration marks the beginning of a new life for me," Stafford wrote in an article that included a photo of his hospital discharge with her husband, mother, and brother, the ### Buffalo Bills assistant coach Chad Hall and a video of his assisted walk and speak softly. "I want to take a moment to thank you all for all your prayers. They worked.I know it.When they opened me, I had an abnormal vein … maybe abnormal for d & # 39; 39 other neurosurgeons, but not the one we chose He had already seen and written an article about it.It is really the work of God. "

Stafford announced on Instagram earlier in April that doctors had discovered an acoustic neuroma, or benign tumor, resting on his cranial nerves after complaining of dizziness early in the year.

She wrote at the time that she was "completely terrified" by the ongoing operation.

On Wednesday, Stafford was admitted for an operation that she said was scheduled to last six hours.

"Now I'm at home and learning my new standard," Stafford wrote Sunday. "It's going to take time, but I just wanted to say thank you, thank you for all your support, your thoughts and your prayers, it means more than anyone will ever know."

The Staffords began attending Georgia as an undergraduate and were married in 2015.

They have three children, the twins Sawyer and Chandler, who were born in 2017 and a girl, Hunter, was born last August.

Matthew Stafford, who did not attend the first week of Lions' out-of-season training program last week, has not yet commented publicly on his wife's state, but on Sunday was his first appearance in social media this week.

Kelly Stafford posted a photo of her packing for the hospital on Tuesday, and that of Hall Wednesday included only him, Kelly Stafford and their mother.

The Lions did not say when they expected Stafford to join the team – they will not be able to start any official drills until next week – but General Manager Bob Quinn said the Stafford situation does not had not changed the plans for the project which will start on Thursday.

Lions should not consider taking a quarter at the beginning of the project, but may seek relief on the third day.

Matthew Stafford, who turned 31 in February, is in his 11th season in the NFL and holds virtually all Lions pass records.

"I would say that my prayers and those of the organization are with him, his family and Kelly's situation," Quinn said Thursday. "He wants to keep everything secret, so I'm going to stop there, I do not want to avoid your question, I just want to – he asked us to keep everything in private."
