Kelly Stafford, wife of Lions QB, recoils slightly after brain surgery

Kelly Stafford, the wife of Matthew Stafford, the Detroit Lions quarterback, has suffered a slight setback in her recovery from a brain surgery this week.

Stafford announced Wednesday on Instagram that she was back in the hospital after struggling to reduce steroids. She shared three photos, starting with that of Tuesday while she was still on steroids.

"I thought I could withstand the pain and the huge headaches that challenged me all day," she wrote. "I thought I could draw my strength from one of the strongest people I know, Matthew. I told myself that the pain would succumb to me, I would not succumb to it. "

The mother of three continued to say that she was struggling to limit her consumption of food or medication and went to the ER early Wednesday. The doctors have given her back to steroids and painkillers, she said, and will monitor her during the night.

"At first, I felt that I had failed, that I could not cope with it," she wrote. "But what I really missed was listening to my own body. A lesson that I feel I have to keep remembering. "

When she revealed last month that she would need a surgical procedure, she listed the things that terrified her of medical complications to what it meant for her family.

"I'm terrified of not taking the time to recover, because I could feel guilty for not having been too long with my children," she wrote on Instagram.

Honestly, there are no words to express what I have felt in recent days. I am beyond my gratitude and I just want to thank all those who have given their support and especially prayers for me and my family in recent days. The ability to connect and support is what makes social media so amazing. I am truly more than grateful. I will take some time away from social media to focus on what is most important in life: my family.
Thanks again for all the support and prayers, it means more than you'll ever know. Until there. ✌?et
