Appearing as a guest on the late night show Friday, the former senior lawyer shared her take on Trump’s time in office, while Maher referred to the fact that many people have died during its administration.
Kellyanne Conway was a staunch champion of President Trump and his legacy when she appeared as a guest on Real time with Bill Maher Friday.
“How do you look back, four years later, is something wrong?” Maher immediately asked Trump’s former senior lawyer. “A lot of things went well, and he will be remembered for it,” Conway replied. She acknowledged that the violent events that took place on the United States Capitol were “vulgar” and later called the government “messy.”
Maher berated her for not publicly acknowledging Biden’s election victory until December 4, weeks after he was scheduled to win the election, though Conway was not sure of the exact date the public recognition took place.
“The real disappointment for people like me is that the last two months haven’t been spent primarily talking about the accomplishments,” she continued, citing the improvements she thinks Trump has made to the achievements. corporate tax rate, poverty rate, wages, manufacturing industry. , the increase in energy jobs. “He rebuilt the army,” she told Maher. Conway later pointed out how Trump is the first modern president “not to bring us into war” and that “many lessons” can be learned from his tenure.
In Maher’s previous monologue, he called it “historic” that Trump is impeached a second time. “It’s like the vaccine, you need two doses, and still no guarantees,” the late night host joked.
Speaking with Conway, Maher went on to say that one of the lessons learned is that we shouldn’t please “fools” when they’re in power. Conway referred to a lunch she had with Trump before Christmas where they discussed the stimulus package, its legacy and the future. Although Conway left the White House in August, Maher called her a “defender” as if she was still working for them. “You can’t deny that a lot of people are better off,” Conway said of how Trump left the economy. “They are no better off now, a lot of them are dead,” Maher said.
Towards the end of the interview, Maher noted that no president is completely truthful, but that Trump has “lied a lot more” than most. Conway – who helped lead Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 and was one of his oldest senior advisers – noted that she had seen him be very compassionate to people. They continued to disagree that Trump “hurls insults” at others.
Conway, who tested positive for COVID-19 in October and exhibited mild symptoms, said she was watching the “good that had been done” while Trump was in power, and noted that the government tended to be “messy”. She explained that Trump supporters felt they had more visibility and a voice, adding that his legacy and the policies he had initiated “will largely survive that.”
