The new series of Frasier is unlikely to include any of the original actors beyond the main character of Kelsey Grammer, the actor said in a new interview.
Talk to WNBC New York, Grammer gave some clues as to where the reboot might take radio host Frasier Crane, who was originally a character in Cheers before starring in the spinoff series which ran from 1993 to 2004.
“He thinks he’s going to go and do one thing, and of course his life takes him in another direction,” Grammer said of the character. “And he ends up rich beyond his dreams.”
Among the details was the revelation that while Grammer had “reached out to everyone,” original recurring cast David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane), Jane Leeves (Daphne Moon) and Peri Gilpin (Roz Doyle) have all so far refused to join the new project.

John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father on the show, died in February 2018. Asked how the story would adapt the story to his absence, Grammer said, “We intend to deal with this in the first episode. “
Official news of the show’s rebirth via Paramount + was confirmed in February of this year, with Grammer stating that he “happily” planned to “share the next chapter in Dr. Frasier Crane’s continuing journey.”
Last month (June 28), Friends star Lisa Kudrow explained why she was fired from Frasier before landing her flagship role of Phoebe Buffay.
The actor was cast as radio producer Roz Doyle in Frasier before the series started in 1993, but she was fired three days after filming the pilot episode.
Appearing on The Howard Stern Show, Kudrow said, “I was not good for the role, for the chemistry of the group. It didn’t work. But I thought, ‘Oh, I’m not that guy [Frasier director James Burrows’] Cup of tea.'”
