Mobile, Ala. – An 18-year-old Alabama Navy recruit died at a training camp in Illinois. Spokesman, Lt. Joseph W. Pfaff, said Kelsey Nobles, of Mobile, had died Tuesday after collapsing during a training at the Naval Recruit Training Center at Great Lakes, in Illinois.

Nobles' father, Harold, told CBS affiliate WKRG-TV that doctors had told him of a heart attack. He says that she fainted after her fitness test. He says that she was taken to a civilian hospital where her death was declared.

Nobles describes his daughter as a young woman who was "the sweetest of souls" and "had the biggest heart". He says that she was full of energy and that she would give anything, even her last dollar.

Pfaff says the navy is investigating. This is the second death in similar circumstances at training camp in the past two months. According to the Military Times, Navy recruit Kierra Evans was declared dead at the hospital after her collapse after a physical training on 22 February.

"For me, am I just like what's wrong?" Harold Nobles told WKRG-TV. "These young people are so excited to serve their country and be part of the military, are they doing enough to control them, should the physical tests be more in-depth?"

The station reported that Kelsey Nobles had graduated last year from Baker High School.

"Kelsey was highly respected and admired by her classmates, teachers and peers," the school said in a statement. "She has had a tremendous impact on the promotion of 2018 as well as on Baker High School, Kelsey will be sorely missed."
