EXCLUSIVE: Kelvin Harrison Jr. landed a supporting role in director Baz Luhrmann and Warner Bros.’s upcoming Elvis movie The photo resumed filming in September after star Tom Hanks fell with COVID-19 in March, causing a shutdown of six-month production.
Austin Butler has been selected to play the role of King of Rock and Roll, while Hanks plays the role of Colonel Tom, Elvis’ manager. Harrison Jr., most recently seen in The photograph, The high markand Netflix The Chicago 7 trial, will play the legendary blues musician BB King aka The King of the Blues.
Written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, the film delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and the enigmatic Parker spanning more than 20 years from Presley’s rise to unprecedented fame, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. At the center of this journey is one of the most important and influential people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Luhrmann is producing the film with Catherine Martin, Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick and Schuyler Weiss. Andrew Mittman is executive producer.
Harrison Jr. is also expected to join Peter Dinklage in Cyrano, MGM’s musical film adaptation of the Off-Broadway play Its representatives are Stride Management, WME and lawyer Nina Shaw.
