At the start of his stint as Danger! guest host walks up, Ken Jennings apologizes for “inarticulate and callous things” he has tweeted in the past.
Jennings will debut as interim host on Monday, January 11. a Twitter thread posted on his personal account on Wednesday, the former Danger! champion said he “wanted to admit” some “jokes” he posted on social media over the years that have recently resurfaced. One, which has since been deleted, said, “Nothing sadder than a sexy person in a wheelchair.”
“In the past, I usually left bad tweets so they could get soaked. At least that way, they could lead to smart answers and even advocacy. Deleting them looked like whitewashing a mistake, ”he wrote. “But I think this practice maybe made it seem like I support every failed joke I’ve ever posted here. Not at all!”
He continued, “Sometimes I have said stupid things in a stupid way and I want to apologize to people who have been (rightly!) Offended. It wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone, but that didn’t matter: I screwed up and I’m so sorry.
Jennings’ rise as a guest host was announced last September when he joined the show as a consulting producer. In this new role, he featured his own special video categories, developed projects, helped with candidate outreach, and served as the show’s general ambassador. In November, he was appointed temporary host, succeeding original host Alex Trebek, who had died weeks earlier of pancreatic cancer.
