When a player's contract is designated for an assignment – often abbreviated as "DFA" – that player is immediately removed from the list of 40 players in his club. Within seven days of the transaction (10 days under the 2012-2016 Collective Bargaining Agreement), the player may be exchanged or placed in an absolute and irrevocable waiver.

Morales has only spent seven weeks with Oakland. On March 27, he had been acquired in an exchange with the Blue Jays in exchange for the Intendant of the League of the Minor League, Jesus Lopez, and money from the international slot after Matt Olson be injured in the right hand during the series of two games of the A.

Morales, a 13-year-old veteran, joins his seventh MLB club after stints with the A, the Blue Jays (2017-18), the Royals (2015-16), the Twins (2014), the Mariners (2013, 14) and the Angels (2006-12). He is a .267 forward with 212 home hits through 1,344 games.

To free room for Morales on the alignment of 40 men, right-handed Jonathan Loaisiga (strain in the right shoulder) was transferred to the list of injured 60 days.
