Kentucky rose to number one in the 2022 round-up scorecard on Wednesday night as five-star prospect Chris Livingston picked the Wildcats in a signing ceremony against Tennessee State and Georgetown. Livingston is the third ‘Cats engagement in the 2022 class and the third five-star talent to join the program in a class that promises to be among the best since John Calipari took the reins of Lexington.
Livingston, a 6-foot-6 combo striker from Oak Hill Academy, is ranked No.6 in his class according to updated rankings in the 247Sports Composite and the second player in his position. Incredibly, he is the second-highest ranked player in Kentucky’s engagement class behind Shaedon Sharpe, who earlier today became the No.1 prospect in the Composite rankings by toppling UCLA-linked Amari Bailey and suspected skinny Kentucky Dereck Lively II, who held the spot just a day after Bailey’s month-long reign.
Livingston’s commitment to Kentucky marks another recruiting achievement for Calipari and his coaching staff in a 2022 class that could become one of the all-time best of the modern era. The three current engagements are all in the top 20 prospects while Dereck Lively II, Cason Wallace and Adem Bona – all five stars who meet the same criteria – are all considered from Kentucky. No program in the modern age has got six of the top 20 talent hires except one – and that was Kentucky in 2013.
Kentucky had their worst season under Calipari last season, going 9-16 and an absence from the NCAA tournament, so the response to bolster the program’s talent has been a remarkable rebound.
