A fried chicken in Kentucky North Carolina was left in ruins after an explosion that rocked the restaurant early Thursday morning.

The Eden Police Service posted on Facebook a photo of what was left of KFC, located on Highway 14 in Eden, North Carolina. Police Chief Greg Light said the blast occurred around 12:35 pm.

According to Light, two employees would have smelled gas during their shift, but no one was in the restaurant during the blast and no one was injured.

"Thank God, everyone was safe," Light told USA TODAY.

WFMY said it received many calls from locals who said the blast had shook homes nearby.

Police have announced that a gas company would visit the site to perform a pressure test on the gas line while the authorities investigate the cause of the blast.

Light says they will likely stay on the scene for most of the day as crews begin cleaning up debris in the area.
