Kentucky Wildcats highlights, box score and MVP of convincing win over LSU

Kentucky finally put their foot on the accelerator, switching to a fast-paced attack that culminated in a season-high 82-69 victory over LSU in points, as the Wildcats claimed a well-deserved victory on Saturday at Rupp Arena.

After three straight losses, Kentucky took advantage of LSU pressure all over the court to pick up the pace, hit open shots and find better pace en route to a 49-36 lead at the half. The Kentucky offense hadn’t crossed the 80-point mark since defeating Morehead State 81-45 to open the season.

Offensively, Kentucky shot 42% from the field (27/64) and had seven three-pointers. BJ Boston led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Keion Brooks had 15. Transfer graduates Olivier Starr and Davion Mintz added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

In the opening frame, Kentucky threw a 10-0 first inning to take a 12-4 lead over a three-point Boston and extended the lead to 26-11 over back-to-back Dontaie Allen trios. Jacob Toppin then scored the next four points and connected with Lance Ware on a traditional three-point game to give the Wildcats a 33-17 advantage, their biggest lead of the game at 16 points.

LSU reduced the lead to five twice in the second half, but couldn’t recover from a poor shooting night, hitting just 4 of 23 behind the three-point arc.

BJ Boston has made a solid business in the last two games as the team’s go-to player on the offensive side and earns the MVP title.

After LSU reduced the lead to five at 56-51, Boston hooked up on a three-point pointer, finished a traditional three-point play with a free throw taken, and flipped a missed Keion Brooks from the back line to push the lead back to 64-51 to help the Wildcats stay in control.

Boston, who has returned to the starting lineup, gains more confidence with every game and could be a dominant scorer in the home stretch as Kentucky hope to make a season-ending run in the SEC tournament that will likely be the only way to the NCAA. Tournament.

Kentucky, 5-9 (4-3) is now moving to face league-leading Alabama on Tuesday night in hopes of avenging a recent 20-point home loss to the Crimson Tide.
