A former Apple employee was accused of stealing the secrets of the company's self-driving and of having tried to escape into China with them.

Xiaolang Zhang worked on the unmanned car project of Apple, but planned to spend to Chinese start-up Xiaopeng Motors, said the company in court documents.
He was arrested at the airport in San Jose, California on July 7th.

Xiaopeng Motors claims to have received no "sensitive information" from Mr. Zhang and stated that she was cooperating with the FBI.
According to court documents, Mr. Zhang was hired in 2015 to develop software and hardware for Apple's autonomous vehicle project.
However, after visiting China in April 2018, he told his supervisor that he was planning to move to the country to work for Xiaopeng Motors.
The supervisor informed the security team of Apple, who found that Zhang had downloaded "copious information pages" from secret databases and had taken material from its autonomous vehicle laboratory, according to court documents.

In a statement, Apple said, "We are working with the authorities on this issue and will make every effort to ensure that this person and all other persons involved are held accountable for their actions."
