Kibera residents woke up Monday as government bulldozers flatten what they've been calling their home for years.
The demolition started at around 6am and the NYS bulldozers have done everything to prepare for construction.
Work on the link crossing between Langata Road and Ngong Road was halted as the 600-m stretch was to be cleared

John Cheboi, communication director of the Kenya Urban Road Authority, said the affected residents were being compensated for business and houses, not for the land.
The National Land Commission said the lot would get moved and settle elsewhere. The notice of expulsion expired on July 16.

They were woken up at 3 am police officers who asked them to withdraw their property.
Benjamin Musonye said: "They gave us two days to evacuate our homes, Saturday I was away and I'm still there.Another house for rent."
Khlaika Hussein, another resident, stated that they had pleaded with the agencies involved in the work to enable them to recover some of the materials that were used in the construction of the sheethouses.
