The Secretary-General of the National Union of Teachers of Kenya (Knut), Wilson Sossion, said the threat of a strike in September remains unless the teachers' demands are met by the employer.
S Address to the Media Masinde University of Muliro Technology, Sossion (19459017) (19459017) stated that teachers will give up their tools at the beginning of the third term, unless the Commission of Teacher Services (TSC) does impose performance contracts for teachers and accepts the union's request.
"We informed the ministry that if offshoring is not stopped, bad policies like teacher supervision and performance and evaluation contracts will continue then we will drop our tools on September 1st" , he said.
He stated that the collective agreement between TSC and Knut did not result in the application of certain regulations by the employer.
Speaking on the sidelines of a conference on education organized by the university where he was a guest speaker, Sossion, also named deputy, said the insufficient funding of the education had affected the quality of training and research in public universities. He challenged education stakeholders to fight for more funding for training and research the national treasury, so the number four sustainable development goal on education must be achieved.
Sossion said delays in disbursement and underfunding of key sectors compromised the quality of education.
He urged the government to step up the war against corruption arguing that billions of shilling lost by tax evasion and other economic crimes were depriving the country's resources to finance its budget.
Sossion stated that the union fully supports the war of President Uhuru Kenyatta. corruption, adding that Kenyans are eager to see successful prosecution of transplant suspects.
