The property was destroyed by fire in the dormitory of Mokowe High School.

More than 7.5 million goods at Mokowe High School in Lamu County were destroyed Thursday by fire.

The fire that started at 8:30 pm found students in the clbades during the night's preparations.

According to director Gideus Mugute, a loud explosion was heard in the boys' dormitory. He said that they managed to use a small fire extinguisher but the fire overwhelmed them.

The director says that they are waiting for the final report of the police, but suspect an electrical failure.

"We are not sure what could have caused the fire, the police are investigating but we suspect that it could be the result of an electrical failure," he said. Mugute said.

The burned dormitory houses 93 students where all their belongings were burned, nothing was saved from the dormitory

No casualties were reported during the fire.

Mugute said that there were deliberations on the girls' side. Since the school is mixed, girls distributed mattresses to affected students who spent the night in various clbadrooms.

The school only has two dormitories for girls and the boys dormitory which was set on fire last night.

On Monday, Witu High School was closed after students demonstrated by turning off lights in clbadrooms and dormitories.
