CORRESPONDENT NAIROBI, Kenya, July 5 – An elderly woman was arrested Thursday in a Nairobi court about 140 million shillings allegedly stolen from Dubai.

The prosecution had asked the court to allow the police to detain Rebecca Musau for a period of 14 days in order to complete the investigations.

However, the court did not issue any orders requested by the prosecution since the suspect's lawyer was absent.

The case will be heard Friday and the instructions issued during the extension requested by the investigator.

The trial judge ordered that the suspect be returned to the Muthaiga Police Station and that his lawyer be allowed to visit him.

The Chief Magistrate, Bernard Nzakyo, was informed by prosecutor Lindsey Mugambi that the suspect had been arrested on Tuesday at the Namanga border as he was attempting to cross the border into Tanzania.

The prosecutor said that Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet had received information from the Foreign Ministry that the suspect and her accomplice had left Dubai after it was learned that Money in transit was gone.

It was at that time that the immigration department was asked to put the suspect on the radar.

During her arrest, the suspect was taken to her home in Kamulu where police recovered 13 million shillings.

Police say the suspect did not explain the source of the money.

The police, heard the court, wants the suspect to be extradited to Dubai where she is wanted.
