Okello was elected on August 8, replacing Wilfred Machage.
Machage did not defend the Senate seat last year, but
instead competed for the seat of the Kuria West Parliament and lost to Mathias Robi, the Jubilee holder.
His body was transported to Migori. County on Sunday morning and received by Governor Okoth Obado among other leaders at the Lichota landing strip
The former radio presenter died on June 19 while he was there. was undergoing treatment at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.
He becomes the first senator to die in power after the 2017 general election.
Residents of Migori County should return to the polls to elect his successor.
