About the Center
The The ARC Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies undertakes the world's best integrated research for the sustainable use and management of coral reefs

Funded in July 2005 by the Australian Center of Excellence The center is headquartered at the James Cook University in Townsville. The ARC Center is a partnership between the James Cook University (JCU), the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences (AIMS), the Australian National University (ANU), the Marine Park Authority. Great Barrier Reef (GBRMPA), University of Queensland (UQ) and University of Western Australia (UWA).

The ARC Center for Excellence coalesces Australia's leading contribution to coral reef science and promotes stronger collaborative links between key partners and 24 other leading institutions in nine countries. According to ISI Essential Science Indicators, four of ARC's top research partners rank among the top 20 in the world for coral reef science citations with JCU 1 (among 1644 institutions in 103 countries). Collectively, the ARC Center creates the largest concentration of coral reef scientists in the world

The Director of the Center is Professor Terry Hughes (JCU), also the recipient of the Award (2012-2017). Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg (UQ) and Professor Malcolm McCulloch (UWA) are badistant directors.

The ARC Center of Excellence focuses on three research programs, each under the direction of James Cook University program leaders. Western Australia and the University of Queensland

The Center of Excellence plays a leading role in multinational research programs. It is the largest institutional contributor to the Global Coral Reef Research Program, funded by the World Bank, and an institutional member of the Alliance for Resilience. The Center of Excellence has close links with the Census of Marine Life project and with coral reef management agencies around the world, particularly the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in Townsville [19659003] Integrated Tweets
