NEW YORK – A new report says China has joined the world's 20 most innovative economies for the first time while the United States is fallen

The Global Innovation Index 2018 is co-sponsored by the World Intellectual Property Organization of the United Nations. It keeps Switzerland in first place, followed by the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Singapore

The United States has moved from fourth place in 2017 to sixth place this year, while China went from the 22nd to the 17th. Chief Executive Francis Gurry said Tuesday that China's ranking represents a breakthrough for its economy, which is rapidly transforming and prioritizing research and ingenuity
