Google has started to deploy the stable version of Chrome 68 for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. The latest update for desktop users comes with new features to improve site security, and other improvements and fixes. You can update the latest version using Chrome's built-in update program or download it directly to the site. Meanwhile, Chrome 68 for Android users brings the Spectrum site isolation feature, the prompt "Add to the Home Screen" and the switch of 39; Android tab P.
The Chrome version 68 brings the Page Lifecycle API, the Payment Handler API change the way browsers designate HTTP sites. As mentioned before, with the latest version of Google Chrome, all HTTP sites will be marked as "unsecure". Chrome users who visit unencrypted sites will receive these warnings. Google had already given developers more than six months to move their sites to a secure connection. Last February, Google announced that Chrome 68 would begin to mark all HTTP sites as "insecure" from July.
Chrome 68 also implemented 42 security patches. There are other security enhancements, including content embedded in an iframe that will now require a user gesture to navigate the top-level navigation context to a different origin. Users will now be prompted with an option to allow forwarding to continue. Chrome 68 will also prevent tabs.
In terms of security, Chrome 68 brings the site's isolation to Android. Last month, Chrome 67 was equipped with the security feature called Site Isolation on Windows, MacOS, Linux, and Chrome OS to limit the extent of Specter's vulnerability revealed earlier this year. It has been said that it is planned to extend the coverage of the site's isolation to Chrome for android. Experimental business strategies for enabling site isolation will be available in Chrome 68 for Android, and can be manually enabled on Android using chrome: // flags / # enable-site- per-process, according to Google.
The new Insulation Feature website, isolates the browser from making the content of each website open in the latest Chrome browser and use a dedicated process for each site to restrict the sharing of processes between multiple sites. Google believes that with the latest development, Chrome can rely on the operating system to prevent attacks between processes and sites. With the arrival of Site Isolation, the Chrome browser on Android no longer loads the data to other websites in the same site process open on an active tab. This limits an attacker to obtain user data by using malicious JavaScript code.
Arriving at the change tab, Chrome 67 for Android had added a flag specifically to activate a horizontal tab selector. This had replaced the original vertical tab selector and was in line with the menu available on Android P. While the tabs overlapped in Chrome 67, the latest release discards cards offering more visibility. You can enable the horizontal tab selector by visiting chrome: // flags / # enable-horizontal-tab-switcher.
Finally, with the latest Chrome update for Android, Progressive Web Apps has more control over the "Add to Home". screen "prompt that comes with a new mini infobar. In particular, Chrome 68 for Android is being deployed now.
