The joint investigation committee on the importation of contraband sugar promised to write its final report without the results of the government chemist and the Ministry of Health.
The Committee on Agriculture and Trade said that they could be charged submit the final results as directed by the President of the National Assembly Justin Muturi.
The committee chaired by MP Kieni Kanini Kega and his counterpart from Mandera South, Adan Haji, said he was only counting on the test results. Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) to conclude their report.
According to Kega, Kebs' results which indicate that there is no mercury in the sugar also show that 40 of the 42 samples tested are safe. The results presented last week also show that 837,244 bags of sugar whose samples were tested and badyzed were not fit for human consumption.
The report of the committee will be tabled tomorrow when the House resumes sitting after the break. , Kega said the report will have details, including the owners of contraband sugar, amount of sugar currently in the country, the names of importers, among others.
