Hundreds of Kibera residents had 12 days to demolish structures to pave the way for the construction of the Ngong Road-Kibera-Kungu Karumba-Langata Link Road.

In a statement signed by the National Secretary of Building Inspection, Moses Nyakiongora, said that those who do not comply with orders will be forcibly evacuated.

"On the expiry of this notice, any structure or property found in the specified corridor will be demolished or removed from the road allowance at the risk and expense of the intruders," reads the release.

The structures are an obstacle to the construction of the road and have slowed the work since the awarding of the tender to the Japanese company Kogyo Kaihatsu in 2016.

Kibera MP Ken Okoth asked the government to ensure that affected residents would be fully compensated.

"I call on the Secretary of the Cabinet responsible for roads to ensure that affected people are relocated in a humane manner and receive fair compensation in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya and the laws and guidelines on evictions and resettlement MP Ken Okoth said:

The first phase of the Ngong Road Expansion Project was launched in August 2016 and completed in March 2018, eight months after the July 2017 completion date.

The second phase commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2018 is a

2.4 kms extend from Prestige Plaza to Dagoreti Corner. The expansion will cost 2.2 billion shillings.

At the end of this project, we expect traffic on Ngong Road.
