The budget segment is teeming with options that offer a lot of features without making holes in your wallet. The segment is also dominated by established players like Xiaomi, Honor and Moto. But from time to time, we see a smartphone of renewed freshness that can pose a challenge to the pillars of the game. The Infinix Hot 6 Pro is one of these devices. Design

Right away, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro is functional and minimalist. The phone is housed in a unibody metal casing with a matte finish that is both easy to grasp and not stain. The two camera unit is located horizontally in the upper left corner and the fingerprint sensor located centrally underneath. We received the Sandstone Black unit where the antenna lines are almost invisible. On the front, everything is riddled with thin glbades. The screen takes 72 percent of the body with ample glbades on the top and bottom. It is quite easy to use thanks to the slim profile that it maintains despite a 4000 mAh battery. More than that, it is pretty light at 150 grams which adds to the ergonomics. In a way, it looks a lot like the Xiaomi Mi A1 and it's not a bad thing at all. The phone also has a dedicated slot for a microSD card, something that most phones go through these days. This helps when you need expandable storage with two SIM cards at the same time. It is also easier to use the phone with one hand because the profile is not as wide. The headphone jack is placed at the bottom of the speaker grill. However, the speakers are blocked when using the phone in landscape mode. Overall, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro appears as a device that seems much more expensive than the price tag that it carries. Display

One of the main attractions of the Hot 6 Pro is the 18: 9 6-inch display. It's only 720p but the IPS LCD panel can very well reproduce colors. The videos and movies on the screen seem bright and vibrant and that is thanks to the increased brightness of the screen. This requires more battery juice, but Infinix takes care of that with the 4000mAh battery inside. The screen has a pixel density of 268ppi. Compared to its competitors who offer a Full HD screen, this may seem like a compromise. The edges of the icons and text appear a bit pixelated because of the low pixel density. The brightness automatically adjusts according to the ambient light. However, the phone does not offer options to change the color temperature and color profiles, which are common in MIUI and EMUI smartphones. It offers a blue light filter in the name of "Eye Care Mode" that puts an orange hue on the screen to reduce eye strain. Does the extra real estate help? The new aspect ratio has certainly reduced the imprint of the phone. The 6-inch screen is housed in a 6.3-inch body and the additional screen also helps to multitask, although the disappointing processor does not really allow much of that. The goal of Hot 6 Pro is to watch videos and, in this respect, it is an acceptable experience with saturated colors. Applications also have support for extending videos to support additional real estate.

Performance and Software

The Infinix Hot 6 Pro is an entry-level device powered by the Snapdragon 425 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The 64-bit quad-core chipset has four 1.4-GHz Cortex A53 cores and is very popular in the budget segment. The new Moto E5 Plus is animated, as is the Redmi Y1 last year and a few other devices. The chipset, as revealed by the benchmark results, gives average performance. On AnTutu, the Hot 6 Pro gets a score of 44358 while on the Geekbench Single Core and Multi Core tests, it gets 657 and 1706 respectively. The user interface of the Hot 6 Pro is a refreshing departure from MIUI and EMUI. XOS Hummingbird 3.2 of Infinix has a polished and clean user interface. The icons are designed consistently and there is an application drawer as well as alphabetically arranged applications. It's pretty attractive. Application shortcuts are created automatically in the Home screen after they are installed. In this way, it preserves the experience that we get in Xiaomi and Honor phones. The icons and the application drawer can also be resized and the themes of the UI, keyboard and screen locked. The user interface is preloaded with a bunch of applications that includes a file sharing application, a video editor, its own app store, an app for its fan club. Interestingly, the facial recognition feature of the phone is a separate application in itself. It's pretty wobbly too. The phone takes a good second to give you access. The fingerprint sensor is much faster than that.

Camera

In addition to focusing on a good display, the Hot 6 Pro has also announced its camera prowess. The phone offers a double 13 + 2 megapixel camera at the back and a 5 megapixel sensor at the front. It can take bokeh pictures on both sides and has a soft LED flash on the front. On paper, he seems to be quite busy.

The photos are not so bad considering its price. The resulting shots were high in contrast and saturation. The details on the photos are not very good and the macro photos come out a little faded. The camera application is easy to use, but there is a slight shift of the shutter that somewhat hampers the experience. The phone claims to have PDAF, but autofocus takes a long time to lock the subject. It does not regulate much exposure.

The portrait mode at the back is quite aggressive in its blur, making it a little artificial. The highlights are also faded in mode.

The front camera can take decent selfies. There is a beauty mode that tends to whiten all the details of your face. In bokeh mode at the front, the blur is much more constant. The edges around the facial hair have been preserved to a certain extent and the contrast has kept a notch higher. The resulting images come out decent. Good enough for social media credit. There is also an LED flash before it's better not to use.

Battery

Wholesale Phone budget with a big battery the craze these days and the Hot 6 Pro does not disappoint here too. It contains a 4000 mAh battery that easily lasted a day or more. However, the PC Mark Work Mark 2.0 test kept crashing, so I could not get an objective measure of battery life. Under heavy use, the phone managed to last a day with two 40-minute episodes streamed to Netflix with generous use of the camera and web surfing. However, it takes a long time to load. The phone does not support fast charging and took about two hours to charge.

Bottomline

The Infinix Hot 6 Pro is for someone who is not a power user and who needs a phone to watch content and using social media. This is not very powerful but lasts long enough to be reliable. The camera is not so bad and does not really seem to compromise. Its price of Rs 7,999 is also quite affordable, but if you can go a little higher, you can choose from more powerful smartphones, including the Realme 1, the Moto E5 Plus and the Redmi 5. The phone is available online exclusively on Flipkart the competition is much higher compared to offline channels. Among the wide list of phones on Flipkart, the Hot 6 Pro could easily get lost in the crowd.
