Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko came out to refute the allegations by a letter circulating on social media that he was resigning by calling the letter "Fake News".
In his Facebook page, Sonko said that the latter addressed to the president of the county badembly was sent by his political rivals.

Sonko said that he was loyal to his supporters stating that he was not ready to leave his job. The governor added that he can not resign without consulting his political party.
"I urge my political foe to stop using these archaic ruses and wait for the next elections that I will do them all," added the governor.
The governor also urged his opponents to engage in a "mature policy" and to stop tarnishing his name.

A letter from the Nairobi County Governor's Office addressing the chairman of the county badembly indicated that Sonko was resigning from his position due to his health condition, among other reasons.
