The petition of NARC-Kenya chief Martha Karua challenging the election of Anne Waiguru as governor of Kirinyaga took a new turn after two judges of the Court of Appeal have recused themselves.
Judges Fatuma Sichale and Sankale Kantai felt uncomfortable.
Karua went to the Court of Appeal after the High Court upheld Waiguru's victory and wanted the decision to be overturned.
Speaking in Nyeri's Court of Appeal on Tuesday, Justice Sichale's former deputy Gichugu dates back to his days at the Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida).
On the other hand, Judge Kantai said that he knew Karua since she was Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs when they became close friends.

Last month, the High Court upheld Waiguru's victory, but unhappy with the decision, Karua again appealed to the Court of Appeal to quash the lower court's verdict
