Nyeri County security officers launched a manhunt for a gang that shot a chief at his home in the Nyeri district.

Peter Kimiti, deputy head of the sub-locality of Gitathini, was shot dead on a farm a few meters from his home while he was visiting the family during his usual tours in the village.

Martin Githigaro, a resident of the region, said the 18-hour incident occurred when four armed men approached the chief and opened fire on him.

"We heard the sound of gunshots fired from our houses, we did not know what had happened so we heard the screams and heard the leader was shot," he said. Explain.

Charles Mutua, criminal investigation officer of Nyeri Township, confirmed that the incident had occurred and explained that the police would conduct investigations to determine the perpetrators of the attack.

"The loss of the chief has been a great loss for the residents, but we (the police) must not rest until those responsible are found and brought to justice," he said.

He asked members of the public to provide police information about the incident and to support efforts to eliminate criminals from the city.

The rulers and residents condemned the killing stating that it was an indication that the criminals were desperate and that they were attacking security guards in an attempt to instill fear in the residents and the police.
