A bill to protect your personal data from misuse by the government, private agencies or even your employer has been discussed
The Data Protection Bill, 2018, sponsored by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi aims to stop entities that have obtained personal data for official purposes, for commercial purposes or for transfer to third parties and beyond the Kenyan territory.
The bill also seeks to prohibit agencies from collecting data on the race or ethnicity of individuals. with legal measures for the protection or advancement of a category of people disadvantaged by unfair discrimination.
And if the bill does not have specific clauses on online platforms, the bill is considered a response to recent claims was collected by an agency that allegedly influenced the election results in Kenya and in the United States.
