. Secretary of Health Cabinet, Sicily Kariuki, said Friday that the Health Benefits Advisory Group charged with designing a set of affordable health benefits and tailored to the delivery of universal health coverage will be ready to unveil the program in November.

The panel will focus on standard criteria for evaluating services, procedures, drugs, medical supplies and technologies.

It will also provide a portfolio of services and procedures that are properly evaluated using the best evidence.

"We anticipate that the initial phase of the Panel's work will be completed in time for the deployment of the UHC pilot project in the four counties.

" During this first phase of UHC, in collaboration with county governments, the Ministry of Health will carefully monitor the responsiveness of this package to the needs of Kenyans, which will inform the extension of universal health coverage to the rest of the country. "Each of the four counties has a special reason for which it was chosen.Kisumu has the highest burden of infectious disease morbidity, Nyeri Noncommunicable Diseases, Machakos has been the scene of the greatest number of accidents of the road, while Isiolo represented nomadic populations, "she said

Dr. Amit Thakker, president of the Kenya Healthcare Federation, said the government must shake off weak accountability structures and governance of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), which hinder the seamless deployment of universal health coverage 19659004] "We must address all challenges to the proper implementation of coverage. "We can only reach the CSU if we define what it is, define a package and move towards it," says Dr. Gitahi.
