Up to now, WhatsApp has incorporated many new features in 2018, from new group discussion controls to media hiding. Now, the messaging platform would test a new feature called Mark as Read. This feature is still under development and is not accessible to users, according to a report from WABetaInfo.
The report states that "WhatsApp is working on a new shortcut to include in your notification center when you receive messages from the same chat" In simpler terms, when a user receives messages from the same chat, he can immediately mark this message as "read" from the notification panel itself, without even opening the application or chat window. Currently, the notification panel only displays the "Reply" option and a new "Mark as read" option will be added soon in the notification shortcut.
This new feature was spotted in WhatsApp Android Beta 2.18.214, but beta testers might not be able to access it because this feature is currently under development. However, we can expect WhatsApp to deploy this feature in the near future.
Moreover, WhatsApp is not finished yet, the company is also testing a mute feature. With this feature you will be able to cut a chat directly from the notifications panel without even opening the app. Both features should be available soon for beta testers.
