Kerr says Klay Thompson “is starting to really move on the pitch”

Klay Thompson is expected to return to the field early next season, although there is no timeline and there is no chance the Warriors will bring him back from his Achilles breakup.

The latest update on Thompson’s comeback came from Steve Kerr (via Anthony Slater at The Athletic), and that’s great news for Warriors fans and just fans of good basketball.

“No full contact yet. But start to really move on the pitch. He is still a long way from playing basketball in a 5v5 setting. But there is a big step with Achilles when you can actually start running again. It’s a huge psychological boost. The rest of the body kicks in, you start to feel the pain and aches that feel good when you have been outside for a while. It is at this point.

We last saw Klay Thompson on an NBA field in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, and the Warriors missed the playoffs in both seasons he’s been out (the first Stephen Curry has also missed most of the time).

While away, he used social media to show his training progress towards a comeback, promote Space Jam, and make his impression of Jackie Moon.

It will be so good to have Thompson back on the pitch next season.
