Not surprisingly, the hiring of Monty Williams by the Phoenix Suns as a new head coach has been well received throughout the NBA. Williams is one of the most respected coaches in the league and has many supporters.
Forward and former Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant was questioned about his decision on Friday.
"His coaching style is that he has lived as a person and his way of looking at life in general and helping him as a leader and teacher," Durant said. "I'm glad he comes back to coaching and coming back on the sidelines. Phoenix, their whole organization, had a great leader to step in and take it to a higher level. "
After coaching the New Orleans pelicans, Williams spent a season as the assistant head coach of Oklahoma City Thunder at Durant.
Williams will spend the rest of his time in Philadelphia as assistant coach of the 76ers in their playoff series. Philadelphia Head Coach Brett Brown commented on Williams' new job Friday.
"I've known him for 15 or 16 years. Whoever pays attention understands that he is "an elite people," Brown said. "He is incredibly relational and proud to study how to become a coach. I hope that it takes something from our program. "
In addition to his time with the Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs, Williams worked for USA Basketball as an assistant coach from 2013 to 2016, helping the team win a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics. During his time there, he coached artists such as Kevin Durant, James Harden and LeBron James.

Williams replaces the fired Igor Kokoskov, who scored 19-63 in his only season as head coach of the Suns. Williams becomes the 20th head coach in the history of the franchise and fourth in five years.
