Shortly after the New Orleans pelicans secured the first overall pick in the NBA 2019 draft on Tuesday night, a number of NBA fans began to share a tweet from Kevin Durant saying that He was heading for New Orleans.
Only one problem: the tweet dated back in 2009. In fact, the tweet was so long ago that pelicans were known at the time as the "Hornets of New Orleans".
The context of the tweet is not clear, but at least it is the case: Durant has not just announced his free agency plans.

Nevertheless, the tweet has since accumulated thousands of retweets and has no doubt misled unsuspecting fans who have not checked the timestamp.
Other Twitter users marveled at the speed with which people were able to find Durant's 10-year tweet.
"People on Twitter are working too fast lol," wrote one user.
Others have dusted off the old memes "My Next Chapter" with pictures, along with photoshopping, from the extensively carved cover of Durant's Durant's Durant's 2016 Tribune article in which he announced his decision to sign with the Warriors.
