Kevin Durant is staying in Brooklyn.
The Nets superstar will sign a four-year, $ 198 million extension with the Nets on Friday. The deal was confirmed by Durant’s longtime business partner Rich Kleiman on Boardroom, the platform they operate under ThirtyFive Ventures.
All of Brooklyn’s Big 3s – Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving – are all eligible for long-term extensions. General manager Sean Marks has signaled his intention to re-sign the entire trio and the willingness of Nets owner Joe Tsai to foot the massive luxury tax bill required.
The 32-year-old Durant’s new expansion will earn him more than half a billion dollars in NBA career earnings, not even including his investments. He will decline his already existing player option for the 2022-2023 season and instead tackle four more years from this next campaign.
In his first season after breaking Achilles in June 2019, Durant averaged 26.9 points, 7.1 boards and 5.6 assists, reaching career highs of 53.7% overall and 45% in depth.
Durant’s playoff run was one for the ages, averaging 34.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. He won Game 5 in the second round by 49 points against Milwaukee and nearly saw Brooklyn win Game 7 against the future champions. He is currently in Tokyo leading the United States in the Olympic gold medal match.
