A deafening silence fell on Oracle Arena, the kind of silence that only surpasses a noisy crowd when a devastating event occurs. That's what happened after Kevin Durant reached his leg, before getting off the court due to an apparent non-contact injury in Game 5 of Warriors-Rockets on Thursday. It does not become more devastating than that.
The Warriors consider Durant's injury to be a right calf injury. He did not return to the fifth match and the state of his injury for the sixth match is uncertain.
This is how it happened.
During it's high above Danuel House and managed a mid-range shot that he has achieved thousands of times in his life. But when he ran to the defense, he stopped to look at his leg. Then he realized that he could not press on it and headed straight for the locker room.
Hall of Fame broadcaster and baseball player Reggie Miller initially feared the worst: an Achilles injury similar to the one that cost half of Kobe Bryant's career, and which also left out Demarcus Cousins during the season. For now, the diagnosis of a right calf strain is a sigh of relief.
We will wait for further updates in the coming days as an MRI could reveal more about his injury.
