Kevin Feige says no MCU projects were held up by PG-13 review, Deadpool an exception

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently claimed that the studio has never been stifled by PG-13 ratings when presenting MCU stories and character journeys onscreen, and clarified that Deadpool was an exception to this policy. Feige took part in a question-and-answer session on Wednesday in which one participant asked about the possibility of Marvel Studios creating more adult-oriented projects in the future, especially now that the streaming service has expanded its content library with more mature offerings thanks to Star – a new entertainment section that has been added to the platform in several locations.

“I think we’re targeting everything we’re doing now for kids and adults. So I think your question is more grown-up, or rated R,” Feige clarified in her response before delving into the subject of ratings.

He then added: “Aside from Deadpool, which has already established itself as a certain genre and a certain note that we’ve said before that we won’t mess up when we start working with Deadpool, that we have, other than that, we’ve never come across a story, storyline, or character journey that a PG-13 or the tone or ratings we’ve used so far have prevented us. “

Feige went on to say that he was not opposed to the idea of ​​R-rated Marvel projects, as he was explaining that he would be willing to venture down that avenue if there ever was a specific project that suited him. different tonality and scoring structure, but so far the studio hasn’t been hampered by ratings when telling the stories they want to tell on the big or small screen.

“We were never held back by this,” he said. “If we ever are, then there certainly could be a discussion to have now that there are other outlets, like Hulu, like Star, but that just hasn’t been the case yet. were able to tell all kinds of stories we wanted with the tone and scoring structure that we have now. “

Earlier this year, Feige confirmed that the next Deadpool movie will be rated R and be part of the MCU – Ryan Reynolds is currently working on a script. The news came after some confusion arose over whether the MCU would (or maybe could) include Deadpool, especially since no Marvel movie has yet crossed into R-rated territory.
