Keyshia Cole and Ashanti ultimately clashed over their Verzuz battle Thursday night.

While the two singers weren’t on time for the start of the event, Cole ended up being over an hour late. His delay shocked fans, especially since the show had been postponed three times. Many lamented the artists’ lack of punctuality in live commentary, with Swizz Beatz even writing, “It’s very disrespectful” and “I can’t lie”.

The singers eventually both sat on their thrones and sang their classics, but it was still not clear why Cole was so late. Her DJ revealed on Friday that she was having technical difficulties before the battle began.

“She didn’t want to go out because her screen was out of focus,” Cole’s DJ explained on 97.9 The Box. “For his part, his screen was blurry. She was there on time. I have seen everything. She was there but she didn’t want to go out because the screen was out of focus and things were wrong, you know. We couldn’t hear [Ashanti’s] aside, so there was a lot of technical stuff there.

Among the many fans who grabbed Ashanti and Cole’s back-to-back were 21 Savage, who performed the lyrics to Cole’s song “I Remember” on Instagram Live.
