KFC reveals its next-gen video game console and it’s as weird as you’d expect

The “KFConsole” is real. It’s a real thing happening, apparently.

The fast food chain teased the console in June and took to Twitter yesterday to make the official announcement, boldly proclaiming that “console wars are more than.

The wacky and mocking “do the impossible” ad that accompanies the ad is Super Bowl-worthy. Check it out:

KFC’s upcoming gaming system doesn’t yet have a price or release date, but we do know a few things about the machine:

  • The KFConsole is built in partnership with the PC Cooler Master manufacturer. It seems likely that this is more of a custom PC build than an actual console.
  • It will have sufficiently robust specs and is capable of running games at 4k / 240fps, something you won’t often find on the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
  • At the heart of the KFConsole is an Intel Nuc 9 Extreme Compute Element which houses an Intel Core i9-9980HK processor.
  • There’s a hot-swappable GPU as well, which means you can upgrade your KFConsole later (unlike other consoles, but very like PCs).
  • The storage is a pair of Seagate BarraCuda 1TB PCIe NVMe SSDs, which is twice the storage you’ll find on an Xbox Series X and almost three times that of a PS5. Maybe not that fast, but still very zippy.
  • The KFConsole is virtual reality ready and supports ray tracing.

But the most important and important thing you need to know about the KFConsole is that it will keep your chicken warm. It does this through its cooling system, which redirects heat to a newly designed chicken chamber.

However, I do not recommend using this chamber for chicken or any other edible product, especially those with a crumbly breading. It’s a . . . innovative concept, but probably not very hygienic. It may not be a good idea for the computer itself, and I’m not sure you should eat chicken that’s kept warm in a custom PC. Plus, KFC isn’t exactly the type of food you should be eating while playing games. Lick your fingers well, maybe, but way too messy. At the very least, wash your hands before picking up a gamepad or mouse and keyboard.

So here is. This is the new video game console from KFC. Will the wonders never cease?

Happy almost 2021 everyone. What a strange year.
