Khabib Nurmagomedov says fighting now ‘is not in my plans’

Khabib Nurmagomedov seems to have a different take on his recent meeting with Dana White as the president of the UFC.

In a recent interview with Russian outlet Sport24, Nurmagomedov did not show much interest in the outcome of the two best fights on Saturday’s UFC 257 card. White, after speaking with the lightweight champion last week, suggested that if anything spectacular happened to Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier or Michael Chandler vs. Dan Hooker, Nurmagomedov could be drawn into the Octagon for a bout of more.

“There has to be some motivation, some hunger,” Nurmagomedov said via a translated text on the video. “If you’re not hungry you know I’ve been playing sports for so many years. I’ve been doing it all my life. I have achieved almost everything in this sport and there is not someone I would like to fight now.

“I know there are a lot of fighters who would like to make money, who aspire to something. What should I do? A lot of people don’t want to understand my side. I don’t see that yet.

“The Eagle” says that while he will continue to train for the love of the sport, he is focusing more on his business interests, such as managing the promotion of the Eagle Fighting Championships.

“If we are talking about all my business plans, I have so much to do that it is expected. And fighting is not part of those plans, ”he said. “I train for myself. The biggest thing that makes me happy is the training. I enjoy it when I wrestle, when I run, when I train, when I work on the pads, when I work on the punch bags. This is what I have been doing all my life, and I will also continue to train constantly.

“But if we are talking about the fights, they are not part of my plans.”

Nurmagomedov hasn’t completely ruled out a comeback, but he has hinted that if it does, it will happen in the distant future – not in the months to come.

“They are constantly arguing, ‘He will come back, he will not come back,” “Nurmagomedov said. “You know, today we have 2021. A year ago it was 2020. Around the same time, January, and so much has happened. We don’t know what’s going to happen in 2022, 2023, you know, so let’s not talk about it. No one knows what will happen tomorrow.

“I don’t even have plans for the UFC in the near future. I have no idea how to prepare for the fight.
