The Post has learned that two senior officials from the Cook County Attorney's Office, including the Chief Ethics Officer, are resigning following the Jussie Smollett case.
April Perry, an ethics officer who works with state attorney Kim Foxx since January 2017, told The Post that she had submitted her letter of resignation on Monday. .
In addition, one of the leaders of Perry, Mark Rotert, resigned on March 27, the day after the announcement of the abandonment of the 16 counts against Smollett, announced the Chicago Sun-Times.
The resignations took place in the midst of a wave of retaliation by Foxx's handling of the Smollett case and the imminent review by the Independent Inspector General of the investigation and its challenge.
Perry is the employee who announced that Foxx was recusing Smollett's file on Feb. 13 in an email sent to lawyers from other states in the department, according to documents made public by a registration application.
"Please note that state attorney Kim Foxx is challenged by the victim investigation Jussie Smollett. The first deputy prosecutor, Joe Magats, is the acting prosecutor for this case, "says the email.
Although Foxx was "challenged," she continued to meddle in the case, according to documents released this week. She then stated that her challenge was "informal" and that she did not think so in the legal sense of the term, but rather in the sense of the term.
