Kim Kardashian turned to her fans for help saving a death row inmate.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 40, is desperate to use his legal skills to stop a convict from being executed in just two weeks for a crime he committed as a teenager.
In a desperate attempt to save him, Kim begged fans to help him raise the issue with President Donald Trump, who has the power to override execution.
Kim, who is trained as a lawyer, took to Twitter to contact fans about a young man named Brandon Bernard – who, along with two accomplices, kidnapped Todd and Stacie Bagley of Fort Hood, Iowa, in 1999.
“A terrible case has come to my attention and I need your help,” Kim wrote on Twitter.
“Otherwise, on December 12, Brandon Bernard will be executed for a crime in which he participated as a teenager.
“First of all, I want to say that a terrible crime has been committed and that my fight for a stay of execution does not take away from the sympathy I have for victims Todd and Stacie Bagley, and their families. . My heart breaks for everyone involved.
Kim then let fans know that two of the people who participated in the crime are not behind bars, but at home.
“In fact, Brandon was not part of the initial carjacking that took place and was stunned when the theft turned into a homicide with one of the other teens shooting both Todd and Stacie in the head.” Kim wrote.
She continued, “The shooter then turned to Brandon, his gun still in hand, and told him to light the car that Todd and Stacie set on fire to destroy the evidence.
“Brandon believed the two were dead, although Stacie was not, and was afraid for his own life, so he made the terrible decision to comply.”
He agreed to drive them in his car – but during the trip, Bernard’s accomplice, Christopher Vialva, pulled out a gun and ordered the couple to get into the trunk.
During the few hours they spent in the trunk, the Bagleys could be heard telling their captors to embrace Christianity.
Kim then explained the situation, adding that she believed Bernard’s attorney dropped the ball when it came to explaining the situation to the jury.
“At the trial, Brandon’s lawyer failed by not hiring any expert who could have explained to the jury why Brandon decided to leave the video game store that night or how he had grown up in an abusive household, or how his homeless father had left him looking for protection on the streets, ”she wrote.
“His trial attorney also failed to tell the jury how remorseful he was or anything about his background. We now know that testimony would have saved his life.”
Kim even said two of the jurors who learned of Bernard’s background after the trial admitted they would not have voted for the death penalty.
Kim continued, “Recently the prosecutor herself – the person who helped put Brandon on death row – has also come forward and demanded that his life be spared since he was the least guilty of the five. adolescents involved.
“Although all five of the teens were black, 11 of the 12 jurors were white. This, added to the misleading and incomplete information the jury received, deprived the boys of a fair trial. Instead of being executed, Brandon could live. his sentence in prison. “
He was convicted of murder in 2000 by a jury in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, then placed in the death row.
Kim concluded, “He has now been in the death row for over 20 years, without any disciplinary comments. He uses his time to reach young people at risk, advising them not to stray from the Lord’s path (or not to follow his teenage years). footprint).”
She then added a link to a petition to help him avoid being executed in two weeks.
The Justice Department has scheduled an execution for December 10 in Terre Haute, Indiana on Friday – which will be the ninth the federal government has carried out in 2020.
Earlier this year, Kim starred in the documentary The Justice Project, which followed her as she met inmates who had been jailed for long terms despite their low-level crimes or were first-time offenders.
