King plans to represent himself, does not apologize for his remarks

Representative Steve King (R-Iowa) said Thursday that he was considering running for a 10th term in Congress, despite his past comments supporting white supremacy.

"I have no excuses to make," King said in a recording of the "Iowa Press" show from the Iowa public channel. The show is scheduled to air Friday night.

King received nationwide criticism, including from members of his own party, and was removed from office by a congressional committee after an interview with The New York Times on January 10 in which he defended white nationalism.

"If we ever have time to have no commission, it is Nancy Pelosi who chairs the House, it's the right time," he said Thursday.

Despite the negative reaction, the Iowa legislature has announced that it would run for reelection in 2020, having already nominated three major competitors.

"Do not let the elitists of this country, the power brokers of this country, tell you who will represent you in the United States Congress," said King, reelected in 2018 by 3.6 percentage points against Democrat JD Scholten. .

For years, King promoted and promoted white and neo-Nazi nationalist propaganda and is openly associated with fascist and far right figures in the United States and abroad. But he received much more attention after the Times interview, in which he questioned the offensive nature of the terms "white nationalist," "white supremacist" and "western civilization."

Iowa Republican said Thursday that it had been misquoted by the Times. He said he was talking about Western civilization and not about white supremacy, an excuse he had already made about these remarks.

"If you want these publications to be true, there is no story," he says. "No part of me believes in anything advocated by people who identify as white nationalists or white supremacists."

On January 15, King spoke in the House to denounce racism and fanaticism. But a HuffPost report reported several weeks later that the racist legislator was still using his government's official website to direct his constituents to a white nationalist blog that regularly posts information about racist, anti-Semitic and Nazi sympathizers. Representative Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) alerted the Ethics Committee of King's House of White Nationalism after reading the report.
