THQ Nordic’s remaster of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will launch for Nintendo Switch on March 16, the company announced on Tuesday.
Reenactment of the kingdoms of Amalur, as the new version calls it, first released in September for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in September 2020. It is a remaster of the 2012 role-playing game from 38 Studios, whose bankruptcy little after the launch of the game became a political scandal for the state of Rhode Island.
Amalur is expanding its borders and heading into uncharted territory of … Nintendo Switch on March 16, 2021.

THQ Nordic purchased the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise in 2018. This remaster is being developed by Kaiko, who previously delivered Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition and Darksiders: Warmastered Edition for THQ Nordic in 2015 and 2016.
Recognized as a deep and fantastic role-playing game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was a critical success for publisher Electronic Arts when it launched on PlayStation 3, Windows PC, and Xbox 360 in February 2012. But even selling 1.2 million copies in its first 90 days, the game no did not bring in enough money to cover the loan that Rhode Island issued to 38 studios.
38 Studios, founded by former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, was eventually wound up at the end of 2013. After the sale of the company’s assets and the settlement of civil lawsuits with Schilling, banks, underwriters and other investors from 38 Studios, Rhode Island taxpayers ended up paying around $ 28 million on government bonds that had given the studio $ 75 million to move to Providence.
The rights that THQ Nordic now controls relate to the Amalur franchise; the rights to publish the original game are still retained by EA. 38 Studios were working on an MMO called Project Copernicus when it went bankrupt. THQ Nordic also selected assets for this when it was acquired in 2018.
