Kit Harington says playing Jon Snow resulted in ‘mental health difficulties’

The iron ThroneKit Harington spoke of the “mental health challenges” he encountered during filming and after the show ended. In his appearance on Jess Cagle’s show This week, the actor reveals he took a year off after the show ended, and explains how work on HBO’s intense and violent show took its toll on him off-camera.

“I experienced mental health problems after Thrones, and at the end of Thrones, to be honest, ”he explains. “I think it was directly related to the nature of the show and what I’ve been doing for years.”

Harington played the heroic Jon Snow in the fantasy series for 62 episodes. He spoke before about how the reception of his character at the start of the series affected him, especially when people called his Jon Snow “boring.” He also faced the pressures inherent in playing such an important character. In 2019, it was reported that Harington had visited a mental health and wellness facility for ‘personal issues’.

After taking a well-deserved gap year after OBTAINEDIt’s over, Harington Streetplayed a lighter role in Amazon’s second season Modern love, based on The New York Times column of the same name. He is set to star in one of the many romantic stories as Michael, a man who makes an unexpected connection with a woman (played by Lucy Boynton) on a train ride.

“In doing so Modern love the episode was kinda like, you don’t have to live in it intense place all the time. Why don’t you do something that takes the weight off? Harington said. “Why don’t you do something fun?” I think that was part of my thinking on this one.

Although he is one of the most important characters in The iron Throne, Harington was clear he wouldn’t return to the role for any of the spinoff series, even until the original series ended. While he may not be dressing up as Jon Snow anytime soon, he will appear as a different type of hero – the Dark Knight – in Upcoming marvel Eternals, directed by Chloe Zhao.
