Klay Thompson, seen in a walking boot for the first time since undergoing surgery on his torn Achilles in November, told fans in a year-end post that he and the Warriors had “so many great basketball in front “.
Thompson wished fans good luck for 2021 in a video posted on the Anta Sports Instagram page Thursday. The 30-year-old has been signed with the Chinese shoe brand since 2014.
“I miss you guys, and unfortunately with the circumstances of 2020, I couldn’t put together the KT tour,” Thompson said in the video posted on New Years Eve, sitting alongside his bulldog Rocco. “But I hope that in the near future this will happen and I will be 100% healthy after my full recovery from Achilles. 2020 has been difficult for me too, suffering from another injury that occurred while i was doing what i love, playing the game i love, basketball, and unfortunately i can’t play this year.
“But you give me so much love and inspiration for this video you made for me. Reaching out, it really meant a lot. It made me very emotional, especially after the operation, and it made me feel really good. ‘just inspire to keep going, which I will. There is so much great basketball coming up not only for me, but for the Warriors as well, and championships to play [for] and hopefully won. And with that, I would like to say goodbye to 2020, and we are so welcoming in 2021 for new and fresh beginnings. “

Hours before the Warriors chose former Memphis center James Wiseman in the 2020 NBA Draft, Thompson suffered a ripped Achilles while playing basketball as he prepared for the start of the NBA season . Thompson missed the entire 2019-20 campaign by recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.
Although Thompson was not physically with the Warriors, his presence was felt. He texted coach Steve Kerr during Golden State’s season opener loss to Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets, and Kerr cited Thompson’s own falls to give Kelly Oubre Jr. the hope to break hers. The Warriors are hopeful that Thompson will be back on the squad once he can truly begin rehab.
“It’s important to all of us, as well as to Klay himself, that he’s here this season,” Kerr told reporters ahead of Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers (San Francisco Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau). “Because of last year’s absence and the pandemic, and just all this weird year and a half it’s been for him and our franchise, I’d love to have him here as much as possible.”
It sounds like the new start that Thompson is hoping for.
