Klobuchar said that to fight against racism as a prosecutor, she had diversified her office, examined how they handled the drug business, put more emphasis on white-collar crime and collaborated with the Innocence project. .

"I have made this major effort because I truly believe that our mission is to condemn the guilty, yes, but to protect the innocent," Klobuchar said. "And there was racism in our system and there are always some."

She added, however, that she could have done more.

"You can always do better," said Klobuchar. "I can tell you, you learn in hindsight when you look back, you can do better."

She also highlighted the overriding influence of outside prosecutors in the federal system and suggested encouraging local district prosecutors to reduce prison sentences.
