Knicks 106, Pacers 102: Scenes from Austin “Big Nuts” Rivers and Julius Randle’s defensive style

The New York Knicks had perhaps their most impressive win of the season to date, going blow for blow with the Indiana Pacers for most of the night before taking the late lead, 106-102.

The Knicks were supported in the fourth by clutch play from Carmelo Anthony Austin Rivers, who hit the Pacers with the nastiest jab-step we’ve seen since Melo left.

Rivers finished 6-9 for 15 points and provided the team with a much needed spark when he replaced Reggie Bullock, who reeked of the joint. His three run put the Knicks ahead by two behind.

And what followed in the next two possessions was a defensive masterclass. Julius Randle didn’t have it offensively tonight, shooting just 5-16, but he put the pincers on All-Star Domantas Sabonis, especially late. Indy tried to hand it over to their big man late and Randle was ready.

The game was still at hand, however, and Pacers playmaker Malcolm Brogdon had shredded the Knicks all night … until he attempted the cardinal sin of shooting the ball nearby. by Mitchell Robinson.

The Knicks didn’t give up on the lead thanks to RJ Barrett’s clutch shot, who finally left his funk, leading 25 points on 8-15 shots (4-5 of three!). RJ is now 7-8 to three against Indiana and an unfathomable 0-21 against everyone.

Immanuel Quickley took his revenge on the Pacers, who accidentally injured him at the start of the season, collecting 9 points out of 3-4 shooting.

Lotta hero in this one. What a game! Alex will have the recap tomorrow morning.
